Jesus Comforts His Disciples.
Our Lord Jesus encourages and comforts the troubled hearts of His disciples, Jesus never promised the disciples or mankind life without trouble, Jesus told them how they will be persecuted, jailed, and beaten for His name’s sake. But promised mankind we could have an untroubled heart even in this wicked evil wilderness we call home and urges mankind to have a relationship with Him. We must believe, have faith, and trust in Him which produces joy and peace.
He will go and prepare a place for them, because of His love (to make ready, to make arrangements) (V.5) A place has been prepared for His bride, but in sorrow Thomas said, “We do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way” Most individuals ask the same question, where are we going? What do I do? Jesus is right in front of you and His hands are stretched out to towards you and me, for He is the only Way as He pointed out in (v.6) “Jesus answered, I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, no one comes to the Father except through Me.” Hebrews 10:20 declares “By a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, His body.” (John the Baptist prepared a way for Jesus, He is the Living Way) His Word is Truth and He is the Word, and the giver of Life, in Him we have life. Jesus has paid it all when He suffered and died on the cross, so mankind can only get to the Father through Him. “God is spirit, and His worshipers must worship Him in the Spirit and truth.” (John 4:24) (NIV)
As Christians, we must worship the Father in truth, and Jesus is the Truth. John 4:24 also confirms, “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears My Word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.” Jesus is the Life, the only way to the Father.
In Vv. 7-11 “Jesus tries to persuade Philip and the other disciples, He is in the Father and the Father in Him, that both are One.” We must believe because of the great works Jesus does. Greater works shall we do because we believe, and He goes to the Father. (V.12). Jesus also encourages us to ask anything in His name because He is a Loving Father. (Vv.14-17) and will send a Helper that He may abide with us forever. Our Precious Holy Spirit. (to offer support, our advocate, parakletos in Greek, meaning our Helper) whom the world cannot (able to do something, dynamite, inherent strength) receive because they neither see (to view attentively, gaze continuously for a long period of time, perceive) Him nor know Him, but we know Him because we believe. Do you believe? (John 14:1-17) (NIV).
